Amigurumi is a type of crochet that might be my favorite kind. Instead of making things like hats, bags, scarves and other clothing items, you make stuffed animals, dolls and toys. You use a smaller hook and can get much more detailed.
“Amigurumi” means stuffed toy in Japanese. People who do amigurumi usually make stuffed dolls. I’ve had fun making animals and fantasy creatures. In the dolls that I do make I usually will put wire inside so you can adjust the way it is standing or sitting.
I like amigurumi because there are so many things you can make, and you can get so detailed in the work that when you finish it feels like it comes alive.
Here are my latest amigurumi pieces:
The dragon is called Hephaestus because Hephaestus is the Greek god of fire, and I thought it matched perfectly.
I learned how to crochet Hephaestus with an awesome step-by-step tutorial – and I was hooked.
The little lady is Sophie, after I made the dragon I wanted to experiment with other things, so I used some of the stitches from the dragon and used them to make a doll. I got carried away and made her a baby, and a full outfit, and I’me still making more!
