Wire Wrapped Feather (Rosé + Yellow)

This feather comes from the tail of a blue and gold macaw from the Parrot Outreach Society in Punta Gorda, FL. The rescue helps take in birds from all sorts of situations and finds them their forever homes. Parrots (especially macaws and cockatoos) have amazing memories and can live as long as 70 years, so they often get passed around from one owner to the other throughout their life. Unfortunately, there are many who are in need of care that clearly will never be released in the wild. All proceeds from this wire wrapped feather will go to help these wonderful birds at the rescue with as much honor and respect to live out the rest of their days (and find some forever homes for them).

These macaws are native to Central and South America, and their range includes Venezuela, south to Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, and also parts of Panama. For some Pueblos, macaw feathers symbolize the sun and are necessary for solar ceremonies. Multihued macaw feathers may represent a sun-rain combination. The long tail feathers, in particular, are needed for certain religious paraphernalia such as the standards carried at corn dances. These feathers have been steamed and wrapped by 15-year-old volunteer Clara Logsdon as a fundraising opportunity for the Parrot Outreach Society and a way to honor these birds and their symbolism.
