Did you know that there is actually a spider that is vegetarian? Many jumping spiders have been found eating plants and nectar alongside an insectivore diet, and whenever a spider recycles its web by eating it, they will also consume any pollen or plant matter that might be stuck to it.
But the Bagheera kiplingi Jumping spider eats almost entirely off of the acacia tree!
The acacia tree leaves are tipped with little orangish yellow nubs called Beltain bodies. These are the main part of the spider’s diet, but they will occasionally eat nectar and ant larvae.
Sometimes we assume an animal species eats the same diet, but just like humans, it can vary!
